Ingrowing Toenail Surgery

An Ingrowing toenail is very painful condition where the nail has pierced the skin causing inflammation and, often, a localised infection.

Common causes are poor nail cutting, picking at nails, trauma and are often hereditary.

Often, the offending nail spike can be removed in a routine appointment without anaesthetic.

But if this can't be done, or the problem is longstanding or recurrent, a permanent solution would be Nail Surgery to remove part or all of the nail and prevent it from growing back.

Nail Surgery is the removal or partial removal of an Ingrowing Toenail under Local Anaesthetic when conservative treatment has failed.

Nail surgery isn't suitable for everyone so we will make an assessment at your appointment by taking your medical history as well as looking at the nail.

The surgery is performed under Local Anaesthetic, given by injection into the toe.
We can then painlessly remove the entire nail, or part of the nail, before applying a chemical to prevent the nail/part of nail from regrowing.
